[U.S. House Democrats Urge FTC to Investigate Predictive Market Advertising Practices]
According to Cointelegraph, nine Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives have called on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate predictive markets, examining whether their advertising practices align with the representations made to regulatory agencies. Representatives Kevin Mullin and Gabe Vasquez stated that predictive market platforms claim to regulatory bodies that they are financial tools offering investment products, yet advertise to the public as gambling platforms. This conflicting messaging could mislead consumers. The lawmakers have requested the FTC to provide a detailed response by June 29 on whether it plans to investigate or take enforcement action against predictive markets. Predictive markets have recently come under scrutiny due to issues of insider trading, with Congress launching investigations into Polymarket and Kalshi in May.
