Foresight News reports, according to The Block, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov stated that TON's native token will be renamed to Gram, restoring the name from the project's original white paper. He remarked, 'We are returning to our roots and starting a new chapter.' TON will remain the name of the blockchain, while Gram will become the name of the native currency, with a transition period of approximately three weeks.
Previously, Telegram launched the initial TON project in 2018, but it was shelved in 2020 after being forced to halt the sale of Gram tokens due to legal disputes with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Subsequently, investors filed lawsuits demanding refunds for their token purchases. Later, independent developers took over the project and continued its development under the name TON (The Open Network).
