[NVIDIA Releases Open Humanoid Robot Reference Design for Global Universities, Adopted by Stanford, ETH Zurich, and Others]
According to monitoring by Beating Insights, Jensen Huang announced the open humanoid robot reference design based on the Isaac GR00T platform during his GTC Taipei 2026 keynote. The design utilizes the Unitree H2 Plus humanoid robot body paired with Sharpa dexterous five-fingered hands (each hand with 25 degrees of freedom, 31 degrees of freedom in total, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 150 pounds). It runs on the Jetson Thor robotics computer and integrates NVIDIA's full software stack: Cosmos for generating synthetic world model data, Isaac Lab for simulation training, Isaac Teleop for remote operation and data collection, and Isaac ROS for runtime deployment. The goal of this reference design is to enable universities and research institutions to bypass building from scratch and begin cutting-edge humanoid robotics research within hours. The first adopters include Ai2, ETH Zurich, the Stanford Robotics Center, and the University of California, San Diego. [Original Link]
