A Chinese man from Phnom Penh was kidnapped and attempted to extort 2 million US dollars in cryptocurrency, but was ultimately killed According to Cambodian media KohsantepheapDaily, a Chinese man was kidnapped and extorted before being killed in Phnom Penh. A 53 year old Chinese man (owner of a real estate company) was kidnapped from an apartment parking lot by three suspects. The suspects used the victim's phone to contact his wife (also Chinese) and extorted $2 million in cryptocurrency. The wife stated that she was unable to make the payment, and the suspect continued to send harassing messages. At around 9am the next morning, the suspect sent the last message saying "it's over here" and then lost contact. The wife subsequently called the police and confirmed the kidnapping process through apartment surveillance. The suspect subjected the victim to torture (choking, stabbing, beating), resulting in their death. Subsequently, the body was left in the back seat of the car and the vehicle was abandoned along with the body in an open space near the Ba Ko village landfill in Dangkao district.
