[SoftBank Commits €75 Billion to Build AI Facilities in France] According to Golden Finance, on May 31, SoftBank pledged to invest up to €75 billion to establish a large-scale AI computing cluster network in France. This project will become the largest data center initiative in Europe. It also marks SoftBank's largest single AI investment outside the United States. Sources revealed that this collaboration was swiftly finalized after French President Emmanuel Macron and Masayoshi Son had dinner together in Tokyo in early April. SoftBank will initially lead with an investment of €45 billion, aiming to achieve a computing power scale of 3.1 GW in the Hauts-de-France region by 2031, with plans to add another 2 GW of computing power in subsequent phases. One of the core facilities of the project will be located in Dunkirk, where SoftBank will partner with Schneider Electric to develop AI infrastructure and a robotics manufacturing center. The region's strategic geographic location allows it to serve clients in London, Brussels, Amsterdam, and other cities. The entire project is planned to reach a total computing power of 5 GW. If fully completed, SoftBank's total investment will amount to approximately €75 billion.
