[Dan Loeb: The AI Investment Boom Is Far From Peaking, Current Market Fundamentally Different From the Dot-Com Bubble Era] Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on May 30, Dan Loeb, founder of the hedge fund Third Point, which manages approximately $24 billion, once again expressed his optimistic outlook on the artificial intelligence industry. He believes the current AI investment cycle is significantly different from the dot-com bubble period of 2000. Loeb pointed out that major tech companies have announced over $700 billion in AI infrastructure investment plans this year, with related spending expected to exceed $1 trillion next year. Unlike the dot-com bubble era, these companies generally possess robust profitability and ample cash flow, with most capital expenditures covered by their operating cash flow. Loeb stated that assuming these investments will not yield returns would imply that tech giants are wasting funds meaninglessly, which is not comparable to the situation during the dot-com bubble when many companies lacked profit support. He also emphasized that there are currently no clear signs of valuation bubbles in the market. To support his view, Loeb cited the example of AI company Anthropic, whose latest funding valuation has risen to approximately $96.5 billion, a significant increase from its valuation of around $38 billion in February this year. During the same period, its annualized revenue grew from about $1.4 billion to approximately $4.7 billion, demonstrating the rapid advancement of AI product demand and commercialization. Loeb believes the current AI wave is still in its early stages, particularly in the enterprise application sector, where market penetration and application depth have substantial room for growth. "The AI boom may just be beginning," he stated, reaffirming his bullish stance. As of the end of March this year, Third Point's disclosed major holdings included leading tech and AI companies such as Amazon, Alphabet, Meta Platforms, and NVIDIA.
