SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce calls for exploring new technological solutions that balance KYC, anti money laundering, and privacy protection Odaily Planet Daily News: US SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce stated in her speech at the "Regulatory PETshop" series of events that privacy enhancing technologies (PETs) are crucial for the digital finance era, and regulatory agencies should not base technological development on expanding surveillance. Hester Peirce pointed out that protecting financial privacy and security are not in opposition, and encryption technology can help ordinary users prevent data breaches, theft, and malicious behavior. She criticized the current regulatory discussions in the United States for overemphasizing the need for surveillance and neglecting the legitimate public demand for privacy protection products. She also mentioned that current regulations require securities transfer agents to record the name and address of the holder, but the blockchain public address mechanism can verify asset ownership without exposing personal identity information, thereby reducing the risk of sensitive data leakage for investors. In addition, Hester Peirce calls on developers to collaborate with the SEC encryption working group to explore new technological solutions that balance KYC, anti money laundering, and privacy protection.
