[Crypto PAC Spends Tens of Millions to Unseat 20-Year Anti-Crypto Incumbent, Paves Way for New Congressman Menefee]
BlockBeats News, May 27: According to crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett, in the Democratic primary runoff for Texas's 18th Congressional District, newcomer congressional candidate Menefee successfully defeated 20-year incumbent Al Green. The crypto industry super PAC Fairshake and its affiliates collectively invested approximately $10.5 million, with $6.5 million used to support Menefee and another $4 million to oppose Green.
Green, who voted against pro-crypto legislation such as the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act, received an "F" rating from the crypto advocacy organization Stand With Crypto. He became the first Democratic incumbent to lose this election cycle due to an anti-crypto stance.
In a post-election statement, Fairshake bluntly stated: "Congressman Green's defeat proves that hostility toward crypto can have tangible electoral consequences. Fairshake was the key variable in this campaign, and we will continue to strongly support leaders like Congressman Menefee nationwide.
