Another wild story from the crypto world: A total of 5 transactions, amounting to 107 BTC, were sent to a burn address. Over $8 million worth of BTC has been permanently destroyed just like that.
The burn address used is the famous one: 1111111111111111111114oLvT2
Currently, it holds 807.23892159 BTC, valued at over $61 million.
The sender's address comes from an old dormant wallet from 2014/15.
Why do this?
It seems unlikely to be a mistake. The 5 transactions were separate, and the total adds up to exactly 107 BTC. It's hard to imagine someone "fat-fingering" the wrong address five times in a row.
As for the real reason? Only the sender knows. ♂️
