Babylon Proposes Integration of Native Bitcoin Collateral on Aave V4 Without Cross-Chain Bridges or Custodians

Babylon Labs has initiated a temperature check proposal in the Aave community, suggesting the integration of native Bitcoin as collateral on Aave V4 through the Babylon Trustless Bitcoin Vaults protocol. This solution requires no wrapping, cross-chain bridges, or custodians. Users lock Bitcoin in a Taproot UTXO, with redemption controlled by on-chain rules (such as loan repayment) and directly settled to Bitcoin UTXO. The proposal involves deploying two Aave V4 Spokes: the Babylon Core Lending Spoke (lending) and the BTC Vault Swap Spoke (post-liquidation settlement). The collateral exists in the form of vaultBTC, a transfer-restricted ERC-20 token that can only be transferred between whitelisted addresses.
