The Indonesian government has banned the prediction market platform Polymarket on the grounds of illegal online gambling
According to Reuters, the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs has recently banned the prediction market platform Polymarket, identifying it as an online gambling platform for providing "bets and speculation on events that have not yet been determined" and violating local laws. Previously, Polymarket launched a betting market on when President Prabowo Subianto will "step down as president", and his term was originally scheduled to end in 2029. The contract was launched the day after Prabowo announced its intention to centralize control over the export of bulk commodities such as coal and palm oil, sparking discussions on local social media. The Indonesian authorities also stated that they are investigating all social media accounts related to Polymarket.
