[U.S. Secretary of State Visits India to Discuss Energy and Security; India Calls the U.S. a "Reliable" Energy Source]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on May 25, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stated after meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New Delhi that India views the United States as an "important and reliable" energy partner. Rubio described U.S.-India relations as one of the "most important relationships globally." Rubio's four-day visit to India focuses on topics such as energy and regional security and is currently in its second day.
Prior to this visit, U.S. officials emphasized that Washington aims to provide India with all the energy it needs. After meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, Rubio reiterated that the United States is willing to help India diversify its energy supply. Jaishankar also mentioned that the issue of U.S. sanctions on Russian oil—a long-standing point of contention in bilateral relations—was brought up during the talks.
On Sunday, Rubio dismissed claims that U.S.-India relations had cooled during Donald Trump's second term and stressed that the partnership between Washington and New Delhi remains a priority.
