[Researchers Warn: AI Accelerating Quantum Computing Development, Posing Potential Threats to Crypto Industry Security] BlockBeats News, May 24 — Security researchers have warned that AI is accelerating the development of quantum computing, potentially posing early threats to the modern cryptographic systems that underpin crypto networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Project Eleven CEO Alex Pruden stated: 'The future security landscape will be completely different. The combination of quantum computing and AI will render traditional security methods unreliable.' Reports indicate that AI is already being used to optimize critical technological bottlenecks such as quantum error correction, potentially shortening the timeline for practical quantum computers. NEAR co-founder Illia Polosukhin also noted that AI is continuously accelerating scientific progress, saying, 'The next generation of quantum computers may even be built with AI assistance.' Researchers are also concerned about the emergence of a 'collect now, decrypt later' strategy, where some governments or institutions are preemptively collecting encrypted data, intending to decrypt it once quantum computers become viable. Since blockchain networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum widely use Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), in theory, a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could derive private keys from public keys, thereby threatening wallet security. Currently, several blockchain ecosystems, including Ethereum, Solana, Zcash, Ripple, and NEAR, have begun researching or deploying migration plans for 'post-quantum cryptography.' However, researchers point out that current post-quantum cryptographic solutions still face challenges such as large size and slow speed. The industry may need to enter a long-term phase of 'continuous security system upgrades' in the future. [Original Link]
