What’s notable about this visit is that he met with four key Iranian leaders: the Iranian President and Foreign Minister, who are considered representatives of the moderate faction, as well as the Iranian Parliament Speaker and Interior Minister, both of whom were once senior commanders in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. These two can somewhat represent the hardliners within the Revolutionary Guard. In essence, the Pakistan Army Chief managed to meet representatives from both the moderate and hardline factions in Iran. The fact that Pakistan issued this statement suggests that some progress was indeed made during the talks.
