[Bloomberg: South Korea Investigates Whether Polymarket Violates Anti-Gambling Laws]
According to Foresight News, Bloomberg reports that the Korea Communications Standards Commission has launched a formal review to determine whether the prediction market platform Polymarket provides illegal gambling content and violates South Korea's anti-gambling laws. South Korea currently imposes strict restrictions on gambling activities, allowing only state-approved institutions such as horse racing and sports betting to operate. Polymarket argues that the odds on its platform are determined by market participants buying and selling contracts, rather than being set by the platform itself, and therefore do not fall under the scope of anti-gambling regulations. South Korea is set to hold local elections in June, and several related election outcome prediction markets are already active on Polymarket.
