Trump's 'state capitalism' strikes again, this time targeting quantum computing and IBM. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration will invest $2 billion in 9 quantum computing companies, with the government acquiring equity stakes. Among them, the Department of Commerce has agreed to grant $1 billion to IBM.
As an early pioneer in quantum computing and semiconductors, IBM has launched multiple generations of quantum processors, including Qiskit, Hummingbird, and Eagle. They also introduced IBM Quantum Experience, allowing users to access IBM's quantum computers via the cloud. Recently, they unveiled their latest quantum computer, capable of running quantum circuits with up to 5,000 two-qubit gate operations. Their edge in the quantum field even surpasses Google.
