Alibaba's first popular C-end AI application, Miaoya Camera, has disbanded its team and stopped upgrading and promoting in less than three years since its launch
According to Beating monitoring, Alibaba's Miaoya Camera, which was once considered the first popular C-end application in the domestic AIGC field, has recently been confirmed to have disbanded its team. At present, the project only maintains low-cost operation, and the product will not be upgraded or promoted. Miaoya Camera was officially released in July 2023. With a digital avatar and exquisite photos generated for 9.9 yuan, it topped the free list on the Apple App Store in August of the same year, with daily active users exceeding 600000 at one point. However, less than three years after its launch, the loss of technical advantages and frequent organizational adjustments accelerated its decline. In terms of technical mechanism, Miaoya Camera adopts the AI image model "Tixiang" independently developed by Alibaba Da Culture and Entertainment (now renamed as Hujing Entertainment), but in the wave of rapid iteration of the group's large models, it has not integrated core large models such as Tongyi Qianwen to share dividends. With the rapid introduction of free and feature rich AI cameras, AI elimination, AI image expansion and other alternative functions by competing products such as Tiktok, the old Meitu tool Meitu Xiuxiu under ByteDance, Miaoya camera's single function tool attribute soon lost its advantage in traffic and social competition. In November 2023, the product manager Zhang Yueguang resigned to start a business, and the project further declined. The ecological conflicts and organizational changes of internal innovation in large factories also determine the fate of Miaoya Camera. At the beginning of the project's inception, the management chose to let it develop independently in order to avoid the backlash of business collaboration, which resulted in the project not being able to obtain sustained ecological and traffic dividends in Alibaba's core cultural and entertainment businesses such as Youku. Subsequently, Alibaba underwent a major organizational restructuring, with Hujing Entertainment shifting towards self financing and profit pursuit, resulting in a significant reduction in the post production investment of Miaoya Camera. As the core of the group's AI strategy focuses on serving e-commerce and Alibaba Cloud computing, these C-end entertainment intelligent agent projects ultimately degenerate into isolated trial and error boundaries.
