[Negotiations Break Down Again, Samsung Electronics to Strike as Scheduled Starting Tomorrow]
BlockBeats News, May 20 – The wage mediation negotiations at South Korea's Samsung Electronics have once again broken down today, and the strike will proceed as scheduled starting tomorrow (Thursday). According to Yonhap News Agency and a union statement, Samsung Electronics' South Korean labor union confirmed that after formal mediation discussions between the union and management were terminated, the strike will take place as planned on Thursday.
The union stated that the negotiations broke down due to delays in decision-making by management and issued a statement saying it had accepted the mediator's proposal, while management failed to respond in time. Both the union and management have separately confirmed the termination of negotiations.
Even as the strike action proceeds, efforts to resolve the issue through negotiations will continue. Analyst Eamonn Sheridan noted that the market will closely monitor which factories and production lines are affected and how long the strike is expected to last. The union emphasized that it will continue seeking an agreement even during the strike, suggesting that the dispute could be resolved relatively quickly. However, the breakdown of mediation after the union accepted the mediator's proposal has shifted the market's focus squarely onto management.
