The Japan Financial Services Agency has included specific trust type stablecoins as electronic payment methods On May 19th, the Japan Financial Services Agency revised the Cabinet Office Order on Electronic Payment Methods and Other Trading Operators, which includes trust beneficiary rights established under foreign laws that are equivalent to the Japanese system in the scope of electronic payment methods under the Fund Settlement Law, providing legal basis for the compliant circulation of trust type stablecoins issued by specific foreign countries in Japan. The new regulations will come into effect on June 1, 2026, and clarify that the relevant trust beneficiary rights do not belong to securities under the Financial Products Trading Law.
