[U.S. Republican Lawmakers Call for Permanent Ban on Central Bank Digital Currency in Housing Bill]
According to Cointelegraph, U.S. Republican lawmakers are calling for a permanent ban on central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the upcoming '21st Century Housing Act,' which is set to be voted on in the House of Representatives. Congressman Mike Flood stated that the revised version of the bill in the House aims to overturn the 'implicit green light' for CBDC and make the ban permanent. If the bill passes the House, it will return to the Senate for potential further amendments. Congressman Warren Davidson supports the permanent ban, arguing that the 2030 expiration date essentially provides a pre-launch development period for CBDC. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer is also pushing his 'Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act,' which passed the House last July but has yet to be approved by the Senate. Emmer warned that if the U.S. adopts a CBDC, privacy and economic freedom will cease to exist.
