Autonomous functions can represent the entire framework of Bitcoin. The only invariant is the longest chain, and all other node calculations are symmetrical. Autonomous functions provide a global (emptiness) perspective, while self-referential structures (individual perspective) are any fractals within the autonomous function. The difference between self-referential structures and autonomous functions lies in the shift in perspective (autonomous functions have one more global invariant than self-referential structures).
