[Gates Foundation Sells Off All Microsoft Stock in Q1, Worth $3.2 Billion]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on May 17, according to documents submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Gates Foundation Trust sold its remaining approximately 7.7 million shares of Microsoft stock in the first quarter of 2026, valued at approximately $3.2 billion based on the current stock price. As of the end of the first quarter, the charitable foundation no longer holds any Microsoft stock. Market analysts believe this sell-off aligns with Bill Gates' recent philanthropic planning direction. In May 2025, Gates announced plans to gradually wind down the foundation's operations over the next 20 years, committing all assets to charitable purposes, with the goal of permanently closing the foundation by December 31, 2045. During this period, charitable expenditures are expected to exceed $200 billion.
