[Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce Answers Questions on Preliminary Outcomes of China-U.S. Economic and Trade Consultations] Reported by Jinse Finance, May 16: Currently, the preliminary outcomes achieved by both sides in the economic and trade field mainly include the following aspects: 1. Both sides will continue to implement the outcomes of previous consultations and have reached a positive consensus on tariff arrangements. 2. Both sides agreed to establish a Trade Council and an Investment Council to discuss respective concerns in the trade and investment fields. Through the Trade Council, the two sides will discuss issues such as tariff reductions on certain products and have, in principle, agreed to reduce tariffs on products of mutual concern on an equivalent scale. 3. Both sides will address or substantially advance the resolution of certain non-tariff barriers and market access issues for agricultural products. The U.S. side will actively work to resolve China's long-standing concerns regarding automatic detention of dairy and aquatic products, export of medium bonsai to the U.S., and recognition of Shandong as an avian influenza-free zone. The Chinese side will also actively work to resolve U.S. concerns regarding the registration of beef facilities and the export of poultry from certain states to China. 4. Both sides agreed to promote the expansion of two-way trade, including in the agricultural sector, through arrangements such as mutual tariff reductions on a certain range of products. 5. Both sides reached relevant arrangements regarding China's purchase of U.S. aircraft and the U.S. ensuring the supply of aircraft engines and components to China, agreeing to continue advancing cooperation in related fields.
