[Ministry of Public Security Criminal Investigation Bureau: Beware of Online Scams Targeting Minors, Stolen Funds Transferred Abroad via Virtual Currency]
The official WeChat account of the Ministry of Public Security Criminal Investigation Bureau published an article titled 'Beware of Online Scams Targeting Minors,' which revealed a new type of online scam chain characterized by 'game traffic diversion + impersonating law enforcement + virtual currency laundering.' Criminals post advertisements on gaming and social platforms to lure minors into adding them as friends. Using intimidation and other tactics, they extract funds from parents' accounts. The stolen funds are split and withdrawn through black and gray market platforms, then used to purchase virtual currency. These virtual currencies, unrestricted by geographical boundaries, can silently flow back to overseas scam hubs, achieving a 'physical separation' for cross-border fund transfers.
The Ministry of Public Security Criminal Investigation Bureau reminds the public that law enforcement agencies will never handle cases online, never intimidate to deduct funds, and never request passwords or verification codes.
