Wu Blockchain reports that Chainalysis published an article stating that prior to the $9.8M theft on THORChain, the suspected attacker’s associated wallet had spent weeks transferring its own funds through Monero, Hyperliquid, and THORChain. On-chain activity links these wallets to the wallet that later received the stolen funds.
Chainalysis noted that one of the fund paths transferred 8 ETH to the wallet receiving stolen funds approximately 43 minutes before the theft occurred. Additionally, three other paths bridged ETH to Arbitrum between May 14 and 15, deposited into Hyperliquid, and returned to Monero via a privacy bridge between Hyperliquid and Monero. Chainalysis stated that as of Friday afternoon, the stolen funds remain unmoved, but the attacker may have already tested cross-chain laundering routes in advance.
