[Consumers Sue Amazon: Failure to Refund Trump Tariff Costs] Amazon was sued by consumers last Friday, demanding the return of costs passed on to them due to tariffs—tariffs that the U.S. Supreme Court later ruled were illegally imposed by President Donald Trump. In a proposed class-action lawsuit filed in federal court in Seattle, consumers accused the e-commerce giant of illegally collecting hundreds of millions of dollars in tariff costs by raising the prices of imported goods before the Supreme Court's ruling. In February of this year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a 6-3 decision that Trump's use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose sweeping tariffs exceeded his authority. Following the ruling, thousands of companies began applying to the government for refunds amounting to billions of dollars. However, Amazon has taken no action, with the lawsuit alleging that this was "not due to a lack of legal grounds, but rather to curry favor with Trump by allowing the federal government to retain these funds." Amazon has not responded to requests for comment. (Sina Finance)
