[CertiK CEO: AI is Turning DeFi Security into an 'Unfair Game']
Odaily Planet Daily News – CertiK co-founder and CEO Ronghui Gu stated that AI tools are exacerbating the imbalance in DeFi security, making it easier for attackers to identify vulnerabilities and replicate attack paths across different protocols. He pointed out that the DeFi security situation was particularly severe in April this year, with only three days in the month free of hacker attacks, and cumulative losses for DeFi protocols exceeding $690 million. Excluding the February 2025 Bybit attack incident, April has become the month with the highest DeFi hacker losses since March 2022.
Ronghui Gu believes that attackers can concentrate significant computational power to repeatedly test a single protocol, while security companies must serve multiple clients simultaneously, leading to dispersed resources and a natural disadvantage on the defensive side. Additionally, recent attacks have shifted focus from smart contract vulnerabilities to weaknesses in operational security and supply chains.
He emphasized that even if AI does not detect vulnerabilities over an extended period, it does not prove that the code is entirely secure. Under current technological conditions, formal verification remains a more reliable method for ensuring security.
