This morning, I met with the National Road Safety Council to review Jamaica’s road safety performance and discuss the urgent need for stronger action to save lives on our roads. While we are encouraged that road fatalities and collisions have declined compared to last year, the reality is that 99 Jamaicans have already lost their lives in crashes since the start of 2026. I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones who continue to grieve these tragic losses. We spoke about the need for greater personal responsibility among all road users, stronger enforcement under the Road Traffic Act, and continued investment in safer roads, better signage, improved intersections, and modern infrastructure across the island. Reducing road deaths will require all of us to play our part. Safer roads begin with safer behaviour.(Andrew Holness)
