CLARITY Bill Deliberation Live: Ethics Amendment Rejected, Senate Clashes over Interest Issues
Odaily Planet Daily News: The review of the Cryptocurrency Market Structure Act (CLARITY Act) by the US Senate Banking Committee has begun, during which there has been a heated conflict over a key amendment involving ethical constraints at the highest levels of government. The amendment, proposed by Senator Chris Van Hollen, aims to prohibit senior government officials, including the President and Vice President, from having commercial interests in the cryptocurrency industry and strengthen transparency requirements. He stated in his speech that the clause aims to prevent conflicts of interest and self dealing, and mentioned the association between Trump and his family with World Liberty Financial. Senator Bernie Moreno opposes the amendment, arguing that it involves criminal penalty provisions that make it "outside the scope of the Banking Committee's review" and more suitable for the Judiciary Committee to handle. He also criticized Van Hollen's statement about "corruption", stating that making criminal charges against relevant personnel without evidence was inappropriate. In the end, the amendment was not passed with 11 votes in favor and 13 votes against.
