Minister of Health and Wellness, Christopher Tufton, said the committee reviewing operations at UHWI concluded that lasting improvements will only happen if there is a major cultural shift within the institution. He explained that the report supported concerns previously raised about long-standing practices and attitudes affecting governance and accountability at the hospital. According to the committee, both the board and staff will need to fully embrace reforms and strengthen transparency, discipline, and proper decision-making processes. The committee further recommended a structured implementation plan with clear timelines, reporting systems, stronger procurement controls, improved financial management, and better internal auditing to ensure the recommended reforms are properly carried out.(Andrew Holness)
