The first batch of refunds for illegal tariffs in the United States will be issued on May 12th According to Golden Finance, on May 12th, the US Customs and Border Protection announced that the first batch of refunds for illegal tariffs will begin to be issued on May 12th, and some US companies will receive refund funds. The US government launched an online application platform last month, allowing companies to apply for refunds of previously paid tariffs that were later ruled illegal by the US Supreme Court. According to US Customs data, over 330000 importers have paid a total of approximately $166 billion in related tariffs. As of April 26th, at least 75000 companies have submitted refund applications. Since the beginning of 2025, the US government has invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose large-scale tariffs. On February 20th of this year, the US Supreme Court announced a ruling that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act did not authorize the President to impose large-scale tariffs, and ruled that the US government's use of this law to implement large-scale tariff policies was illegal.
