[Stablecoin Legislation Absent from South Korean National Assembly Bill Review, 8 Related Bills Still Pending]
According to Edaily, the South Korean National Assembly's Political Affairs Committee held its final bill review subcommittee meeting for the first half of the year today, discussing 53 bills, nearly half of which were amendments to the Capital Markets Act. However, the Basic Act on Digital Assets related to stablecoins (second-phase legislation) was excluded from the discussion. The committee stated that, considering the committee's reorganization after May and the schedule for local elections in June, the bill discussions could be postponed to the second half of the year. Currently, there are 8 stablecoin-related bills pending in the National Assembly. Industry experts in the country have warned that the longer the legislation for the Basic Act on Digital Assets is delayed, the more severe the negative impacts such as capital outflows and the contraction of domestic industries will become.
