[Senior U.S. Officials Meet Qatari Prime Minister to Promote Iran Ceasefire]
Reported by Golden Finance, on May 10, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio and White House envoy Whitkov met with Qatari Prime Minister Al-Thani in Miami on Saturday to focus on discussions about ending the Iran war. Currently, the U.S. and Iran are negotiating a one-page ceasefire memorandum aimed at establishing a framework for more detailed talks to follow. Qatar is playing a key mediating role in this process. Al-Thani had met with Vice President Vance in Washington the previous day and then made a last-minute change to his itinerary to travel to Miami, during which he also called Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister to coordinate positions. As of Saturday afternoon, the U.S. was still awaiting a response from Iran. In addition to Qatar, multiple countries including Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia are working together to ease tensions and facilitate an agreement between the two sides. Sources familiar with the matter stated that mediators are urging both parties to focus on the substance of the agreement.
