Blockchain security company CertiK released a report stating that in the first four months of 2026, there have been 34 confirmed cases of physical violence, known as 'wrench attacks,' targeting crypto asset holders globally—a 41% year-over-year increase—resulting in approximately $101 million in losses. If this trend continues, annual losses could reach several hundred million dollars. Among these incidents, 82% occurred in Europe, with France accounting for 24 cases. CertiK highlighted that attack methods are shifting from traditional tracking to 'data-driven' targeted assaults. Attackers are purchasing names, addresses, and financial information to filter targets and are increasingly using victims' family members as leverage. Meanwhile, impersonating delivery personnel, police officers, and fake OTC trades remain the primary tactics.
