[British Sprint Star CJ Ujah Indicted in Crypto Fraud Case]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that, according to British police, former World Athletics Championships 4×100m relay gold medalist and British sprinter CJ Ujah, along with nine others, has been charged with conspiracy to commit fraud in connection with a cryptocurrency scam. Police stated that the criminal group impersonated law enforcement officers and cryptocurrency company representatives to carry out phone scams on multiple victims, tricking them into revealing critical wallet security information, including seed phrases. The group then transferred the victims' crypto assets, with one victim losing over £300,000. The case was cracked following a joint investigation by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) across Kent, Essex, and London. The ten suspects have appeared in court, with Ujah granted bail until a further hearing on May 28.
The 32-year-old Ujah won the 4×100m relay gold medal at the 2017 World Championships representing Team Great Britain and also claimed the Diamond League title that same year. In 2022, he was banned for 22 months due to a doping violation, which was later determined to be caused by contamination of supplements leading to a false positive. In addition to Ujah, another British sprinter, Brandon Mingeli, is also among those arrested and is currently in custody awaiting trial. (The Guardian)
