Despite Argentine President Javier Milei introducing a tax-free deposit bill to attract capital back into the system, the country’s citizens are still hoarding nearly $170 billion in cash outside the banking system due to a severe trust crisis. The new bill has only managed to attract less than $1 billion in dollar deposits. Reportedly, this stems from the 2001 crisis when the Argentine government forcibly converted dollar deposits and restricted withdrawals.
