Despite Argentine President Javier Milei introducing a tax-free deposit bill to attract capital back into the system, the country’s citizens are still hoarding nearly $170 billion in cash outside the banking system due to a severe trust crisis. The new bill has only managed to attract less than $1 billion in dollar deposits. Reportedly, this stems from the 2001 crisis when the Argentine government forcibly converted dollar deposits and restricted withdrawals. Due to the lukewarm response to his policies, Milei has recently walked back on his core campaign promises to abolish the central bank and fully dollarize the economy. (Bitcoin com)
