Ethereum Layer 2 is a long-term narrative I’m bullish on, as it can thrive symbiotically with Ethereum. In the short term, I’m personally optimistic about two directions:
1/ The Base spin-off model
2/ High-performance L2 app chains (e.g., Polymarket)
Base is currently the undisputed leader in the L2 space. Once the Azul hard fork upgrade happens this month, cutting ties with the OP Superchain ecosystem, it’s almost certain that Base will develop its own Base Stack ecosystem chain.
There are basically two approaches: one is the outsourcing model represented by Optimism’s OP Stack Superchain ecosystem; the other is the tightly aligned spin-off model like Polygon’s Billions/Katana/Miden.
Polymarket’s chain transformation, creating an app-specific L2 chain highly aligned with Ethereum, could serve as a strong example. Right now, the maturity of Rollup-as-a-Service (RaaS) one-click chain deployment tech is extremely high. Plus, after Ethereum’s Fusaka upgrade, which completely solved Rollup scalability issues, building Rollup app chains based on RaaS has become the most mature and efficient path for constructing high-performance public chains tailored for specific use cases like high-frequency trading and payments.
