[The White House Declines to Comment on Details of Iran's Response, Iran Remains Deeply Distrustful of the U.S.]
According to Jin10 reports, the White House stated it would not disclose details of private diplomatic discussions when asked about Iran submitting a proposal to Pakistan, adding that negotiations are still ongoing. It remains unclear whether Iran's latest proposal is sufficient to bring both sides back to the negotiating table.
An Iranian source indicated that if the U.S. lifts the blockade on Iranian ports and Iran fully reopens the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran might consider resuming negotiations. The U.S. has made it clear that Iran should unconditionally allow any vessel to pass through the strait; however, it is not yet known whether Iran's latest proposal includes this concession.
The source also noted that Iran remains deeply distrustful of the U.S. and does not understand why the U.S. abandoned dialogue during the last round of talks in Pakistan.
