[Trump Says He Will Remove Tariffs and Import Restrictions on Scotch Whisky] On April 30, U.S. President Trump announced on social media that he would remove tariffs and import restrictions on Scotch whisky from the United Kingdom. According to data from the Scotch Whisky Association, the United States is the largest single overseas export market for Scotch whisky, accounting for nearly 20% of Scotch whisky's total export value in 2025. Due to the increased tariffs imposed by the U.S., the export value and volume of Scotch whisky to the U.S. in 2025 decreased by 4% and 9.2%, respectively. For a long time, the whisky industries of the U.S. and the U.K. have maintained a two-way trade relationship. While Scotch whisky is exported to the U.S., American companies export large quantities of used wooden barrels to Scotch whisky manufacturers for aging whisky. According to the trade agreement reached between the U.S. and the U.K. in May 2025, the U.S. imposed a 10% import tariff on whisky imported from the U.K., a rate that has remained unchanged to this day.
