Here is the exact text from OpenAI's December 11, 2015 announcement: "Sam, Greg, Elon, Reid Hoffman, Jessica Livingston, Peter Thiel, Amazon Web Services, Infosys, and YC Research are donating to support OpenAI. In total, these funders have committed $1 billion." Count the names. That is NINE people and organizations making a collective pledge. OpenAI's own lawyer took a group commitment made by nine separate contributors and collapsed it into a personal promise made by one man.
