**[Altman: OpenAI Will Be a "Forever Low-Profit" Company, Aiming to Benchmark Stripe]**
Odaily Planet Daily News – OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated at Stripe Sessions that OpenAI aims to become a "forever low-profit, but large-scale and fast-growing" infrastructure company, offering products akin to "intelligent instruments" that allow anyone to purchase them for automating businesses, developing products, or embedding them into their own services. He compared OpenAI to Stripe, noting that its model is based on usage-based pricing, where both Stripe and its users benefit as the internet scales up.
Altman revealed that OpenAI has already signed 20-year contracts for electricity and land to support this goal. He acknowledged that AI has relatively low switching costs, citing the recent migration of users from competing programming tools to Codex as evidence that the smarter AI becomes, the easier platform switching becomes. He pointed out that while some companies may attempt to dominate the entire supply chain, OpenAI does not intend to do so, believing that models and data centers form a unified whole, and other companies can build products on this foundation.
Altman also emphasized that businesses should not overestimate the impact of AI on existing business structures. While AI has transformed many existing processes, good products will still survive in the market. He specifically mentioned Shopify CEO Toby Lütke as the best AI adopter he has ever encountered.
