[US Media: US Proposes Forming Alliance to Restore Vessel Navigation in the Strait]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on April 30, citing The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. government is calling on other countries to join a new international alliance to help ensure the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. In an internal cable sent to embassies on Tuesday, the U.S. State Department outlined an initiative called the "Maritime Freedom Construct," urging U.S. diplomats to persuade foreign governments to sign related agreements. The cable stated that the U.S.-led alliance would share information, conduct diplomatic coordination, and enforce sanctions. The alliance's operations will be jointly carried out by the U.S. State Department and Central Command, with the former serving as the coordination hub for diplomatic affairs and the latter providing real-time maritime situational awareness for commercial shipping and facilitating information sharing among cooperating militaries. When asked about the proposal, a senior administration official confirmed that this idea is one of the many diplomatic and policy tools available to President Trump. (Jin10)
