[EU: Metaverse platform fails to effectively prevent minors from using its services]
The European Commission issued a communiqué on the 29th stating that it has preliminarily determined that the U.S.-based Metaverse platform company violated the EU's Digital Services Act. The reason is that the company's social media platforms Instagram and Facebook failed to effectively identify, assess, and mitigate the risks of minors under the age of 13 using their services.
The communiqué noted that although the Metaverse platform company stipulates in its own terms of service that users must be at least 13 years old to safely use Instagram and Facebook, the age restriction measures implemented by the company appear to be ineffective. These measures neither adequately prevent minors under 13 from using their services nor promptly identify and revoke access for minors who have already gained access. (Xinhua News Agency)
