The head of the World Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce answered a reporter's question on the full implementation of zero tariff measures in 53 African countries with diplomatic relations
The person in charge of the World Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce answered a reporter's question about the full implementation of zero tariff measures in 53 African countries that have established diplomatic relations: China adheres to the policy concept of genuine, friendly, and sincere relations with Africa and the correct view of justice and benefit. Since 2005, it has provided zero tariff treatment to some products from the least developed countries, including African countries. In the process of expanding China's level of openness, the range of products eligible for zero tariff treatment has also continued to expand. Starting from December 1, 2024, China will grant 100% tariff free treatment to all least developed countries that have established diplomatic relations with China, including 33 African countries. The zero tariff measure implemented from May 1st is an innovative measure taken by China and African countries that do not belong to the least developed countries in the process of negotiating and signing economic partnership agreements for common development. It effectively responds to the practical difficulties of African countries in completing negotiations with China in a short period of time and is a phased and pioneering arrangement. African countries still need to continue negotiating agreements with China to ensure long-term, stable, and institutionalized zero tariff treatment. Xinhua News Agency
