Alexander Mashinsky, founder of Celsius, has reached a settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), under which he will be permanently banned from promoting products or services that involve depositing, exchanging, investing, or withdrawing assets, and must pay $10 million. According to an order signed Tuesday by Judge Denise Cote of the Southern District of New York, the FTC's $4.72 billion judgment against Mashinsky has been largely suspended. However, if he fails to disclose significant assets, misrepresents asset values, or omits key information in his financial disclosures, the suspension could be lifted, and the full judgment amount would become immediately due. In May 2025, Mashinsky was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to commodities fraud and securities fraud. (Cointelegraph)
