[Co-founder of UK online retailer ASOS dies, nearly $4 million transferred from his Bitcoin wallet]
According to the Daily Mail, Quentin Griffiths, co-founder of UK online retailer ASOS, fell to his death from a 17th-floor apartment in Thailand on February 9. Nearly $4 million was transferred from his Bitcoin wallet within days of his passing. The 58-year-old Griffiths had previously been under investigation by Thai police for alleged fraud involving approximately £500,000 connected to a company run by his 43-year-old ex-wife. In October last year, he was convicted of fraud and sentenced to 18 months in prison, but reportedly appealed to remain free under Thai law. Two days before his death, he was scheduled to meet with his ex-wife's lawyer. His eldest son Joel reported the missing Bitcoin six weeks after his father’s death, and Thai police are currently investigating. Griffiths' family discovered the missing funds in the crypto wallet while in Thailand handling posthumous affairs, noting that only individuals with access to the wallet could transfer the funds.
