[April 29: Vote on Fed Chair Nominee Waller to Take Place in Senate]
Odaily Planet Daily News – Last Sunday, Republican Senator Thom Tillis dropped his obstruction of the confirmation process for the nomination of Waller as Federal Reserve Chair after the Department of Justice concluded its investigation into Powell. The Senate Banking Committee ultimately voted 13-11 in favor of advancing the nomination of Kevin Waller for Federal Reserve Chair to a full Senate vote. According to the official website of the Senate Banking Committee, the vote is scheduled for April 29 at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
On the same day, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will also announce its latest interest rate decision. Current Chair Powell will host what will be his 63rd—and possibly final—press conference as Fed Chair during his eight-year tenure. Powell's term as Federal Reserve Chair is set to expire on May 15, but his term as a Board Governor runs until January 31, 2028. Whether Powell will also step down from the Federal Reserve Board has become a key focus for the market.
