[South Korea's National Tax Service Recovers 33.9 Billion Won in Cross-Border Taxes Over Nine Months, Will Receive Overseas Crypto Asset Reports Starting Next Year] According to The Korea Times, South Korea's National Tax Service (NTS) has recovered 33.9 billion won (approximately $23 million) in unpaid taxes over the past nine months since the implementation of a new system in July 2025. This amount constitutes the majority of the total 37.2 billion won recovered from cross-border cases since 2015. The NTS has collaborated with tax authorities from three countries and exchanged information with 163 jurisdictions to track assets hidden overseas. Starting next year, South Korea will receive virtual asset transaction data from 56 countries under a new crypto asset reporting framework. Additionally, beginning in 2030, the country will exchange information on overseas real estate holdings and transactions. For the first time, the NTS also participated in an overseas bankruptcy proceeding, asserting creditor claims against a real estate developer that filed for bankruptcy in Indonesia and successfully obtaining creditor status.
