According to Golden Finance, on April 28, Chinese authorities yesterday halted the acquisition of AI startup Manus by U.S. tech giant Meta, requiring the parties involved to cancel the transaction.
On April 27, the Office of the Foreign Investment Security Review Mechanism under the National Development and Reform Commission of China announced on its official website that it had "made a decision to prohibit the foreign investment acquisition of the Manus project in accordance with laws and regulations, requiring the parties involved to cancel the acquisition transaction."
Meta issued a statement on the same day, stating that the transaction complies with relevant applicable laws and expressing hope that the issues raised in China's investigation can be properly resolved, but did not provide further details.
Meta announced the $2 billion acquisition of Manus at the end of December last year, and China confirmed its involvement in the investigation in January this year. (Dongxin News Agency)
