Two of Iran's major neighbors, Turkey and Azerbaijan, sold off 126 tons and 22 tons of gold respectively in Q1 2026, becoming the top two sellers of the quarter.
The U.S. and Israel teamed up to pressure Iran, but instead of Iran collapsing, it seems like the neighbors couldn’t hold on and started selling gold to make ends meet.
Azerbaijan's gold holdings rank 24th in the world, accounting for 0.5-0.7%. Turkey ranks 10th, with 2%.
